Year 7 Textiles Tecstiliau Blywddyn 7
At KS3 students develop their imagination, creativity, knowledge and understanding of the subject. Textiles is a fun subject where pupils work from a set design briefs and meet the needs and requirements of a manufacturer/situation. In year 7 pupils complete surface pattern inspired project culminating in the construction of a cushion.
Yr 7 work in mini sketchbooks
Within their lessons pupils explore:​
- Health and safety in the sewing classroom
- Using block printing to creating surface pattern
- Mixed media and surface pattern techniques
- Hand embroidery
- Develop research, design and presentation skills
- Develop design ideas and annotation skills
- Develop sewing machine confidence
- Use numeracy and literacy skills bith in the manufacture of the product and in production of folio.

Textiles year 7 and 8
Year 8 Textiles Tecstiliau Blywddyn 8
In year pupils in year 8 will explore the theme “Making a Statement” Pupils will research the work of influential fashion designers and textile artists to create a design which gives their viewpoint on a topic of interest.
- Pattern cutting and a variety of manufacturing techniques such as hems and casings.
- Use of mood boards to generate ideas.
- Use of fabric painting and embroidery techniques to creating surface pattern.
- Design presentation skills
- Develop design ideas and annotation skills
- Develop sewing machine confidence
- Use numeracy and literacy skills both in the manufacture of the product and in production of folio.
- Develop personal skills such as Critical thinking and problem-solving, resilience, stress tolerance and flexibility as well as self-management such as active learning,
